Every year farm bureau reads to the 1st and 2nd grade. The goal is to get interaction with the schools and to advocate for agriculture.
One book I read was The Little Red Hen...it was suggested I take my little red hen along, so I did. The kids LOVED seeing her and hearing all about the benefit we get from chickens.
It's amazing how even in rural America some kiddos don't know much about farming and ranching.
This year I said I'd read again, and we added pre school as well.
